We would like to ask you to recommend to us young women working in your
environment that might be interested in becoming a School Science Ambassador.
EMBO, CERN and EMBL have just launched a new European-funded project,
SET-Routes (www.set-routes.org ), with the goal
of encouraging women to pursue careers in Science, Engineering and
Technology (SET).
SET-Routes' strategy is to recruit young successful women from amongst
staff, members, fellows and alumni of the three consortium partners to
become SET-Routes Ambassadors and act as role models in schools. SET-Routes
Ambassadors may be practicing scientists and engineers, or be using their
scientific education in other environments.
Being an Ambassador would involve giving a talk on their work experience at
a school in their home country during the academic year 2007/2008. The
Ambassadors will be invited to participate in the SET-Routes International
Women in Science Conference "The Way Forward", in Heidelberg on 9-11 May
2007, which will include a training session on working in schools.
If you know someone who would be interested in becoming a SET-Routes School Ambassador,
please ask them to contact Maria Santos (maria.santos@embl.de). We
would appreciate receiving a response by 15th of February 2007. |
EMBO is organising an international women in science conference from 9-11 May 2007 in Heidelberg, Germany. Entitled "Women in Science: The Way Forward", the meeting will mark the starting point of a joint initiative involving EMBO, the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN): http://www.set-routes.org. "The Way Forward" will look to the future of women in science. Bringing together scientists, politicians and other decision-makers, the aim is to inspire participants to take action that will help attract women into science and keep them there. The conference also features an exhibition area where successful initiatives will be presented. To register, please go to: http://www.set-routes.org/conference. We would also be grateful if you forward this message to interested colleagues. |
